FAIRTRADE GHANA NETWORK AND AVSF HOLDS WORKSHOPS FOR MEMBERS ON FAIRTRADE CERTIFICATION, BUSINESS MODEL DEVELOPMENT & ESTIMATING PRODUCTION COST AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Fair Trade Ghana Network held a 4 day training programme for its members from the 25th to 28th October, 2021 at Bunso Cocoa College in the Eastern Region.

The trainings funded with support from the French development fund and Agronomist and Veterinarians beyond boarders was to

  1. Equip members with the requisite knowledge in Certification in order to avoid decertification, address challenges in meeting certification standards and strategize on accessing international markets with Fairtrade products.
  2. Business Model Development and Estimating Production Cost
  3. Climate change , its impact and mitigation

 The 23 total participants arrived in Bunso Cocoa College on the 23rd October and participated in the trainings which began on the Monday through to Thursday.

It was a Training of Trainers, which meant that the representatives had the mandate to go back to their various Producer and Hired Labour Organisations and train others on same topics.

Participants, hailing from the eastern, central, greater Accra, upper east and northern region were all present. Represented Fairtrade products were cocoa, cashew, pineapple, mango, crafts and Shea.

Two of the trainers came from Fairtrade West Africa Office, which is a partner organisation to fair trade Ghana network. They were Mr. Baaman Chatin and Mr Nicholas Ofori. A consultant from the Ministry of food and Agriculture in the person of Mr Kingsley Agyeman also took the members through a training session on Climate Change.
